PTS’ 300-Student STEMtastic Event Hailed as a Success

PTS opened its doors this week to nearly 300 young people recently as it hosted RTC North’s latest STEMtastic event.

Bringing together industry and education in a workplace setting to inform, educate and inspire young people about their sector, STEMtastic saw 15 companies, many of them based at the Port of Blyth‘s offshore energy support base, showcase their businesses and provided young people with an inspiring day of hands-on activities covering a breadth of STEM industries.

Paul Parry, Business Development Manager at PTS, said: “The event was a huge success with a lot of positive feedback from both the young people and the schools and the businesses who took part.

“The Port of Blyth and PTS believe that giving young people access to such high performing engineering companies at this point in their education will help to raise their career aspirations and give them a better understanding of the fantastic opportunities STEM industries can offer.

“Events such as STEMtastic also support the offshore energy related tenant businesses based at the Port of Blyth to attract the talent they require to grow and challenges the skills gap that exists in the engineering sector.”

The event was open to Y10 and Y11 students, with schools from across the region taking part, visiting Port of Blyth tenant busineses DeepOcean, Global Marine Group, Hydrasun, MHI Vestas, Osbit, Royal IHC and Texo, as well as the world leading test facilities of the ORE Catapult in Blyth.
