National Apprenticeship Week – Meet Niamh! 

As this week marks ‘National Apprentice Week 2023′ we thought that we would shine a spotlight on our Business Administration Apprentice, Niamh Dougan to share her experience of undertaking an apprenticeship with Port Training Services.

Q&A: 

What is involved in your role at Port Training Services? 

My role at Port Training Services consists of a variety of different elements. These include: Assisting with the general administration of the business, such as answering the phones, booking training courses for customers at our training centre in Blyth, and updating our training schedule. I also assist with STEM events, working alongside STEM@EnergyCentral to help promote careers in Science, Technology, English and Maths. This is a fantastic opportunity as it allows me to gain advanced knowledge of the offshore energy sector and the clean energy industry. I am also supporting numerous departments at the Port of Blyth to gain insight into different aspects of the business and find out what career path might be right for me, which is extremely beneficial.  

What do you bring to Port Training Services? 

I would like to think that I can bring fresh ideas that are forward-thinking and diverse. I understand the importance of social media in promoting businesses large and small, and I can help support the marketing department with content generation for PTS.  

What made you decide to do a Business Admin Apprenticeship with Port Training Services? 

I decided that Sixth form was not for me after one year of studying there. I was not planning on going to university (like most in my Sixth Form), and I felt ready for a new challenge. When I saw the role I thought it was perfectly suited to me, I knew that the Port of Blyth was a well-established, local company, that was constantly growing which is why I wanted to work there. Port Training Services is a great business to work for and I cannot wait to see what happens in the remaining 15 months of my apprenticeship!
