The aim of this course is to provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills for the safe, competent operation of a reach stacker/container handler.

Purpose

This course provides a real experience of an operational work environment, including the use of Reach Stacker and the specialised lifting equipment required for the Port, Marine & Offshore Renewables industries.

Contents

At the end of course delegates will be able to:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry & their responsibilities as a Reach Stacker Operator
  • Conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data & conform to relevant regulations and legislation
  • Locate, identify & explain the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Interpret & extract information on all relevant documentation
  • Undertake all pre-use checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine
  • Identify & maintain PPE appropriate for Reach Stacker use
  • Secure various load types to spreader using relevant lifting procedures ensuring load balance, security & integrity
  • Direct & guide the movement of loads to different types of location using different methods of communication,  hand signals & radio
  • The effect of varying environmental conditions & the considerations to be applied
  • Carry out all out-of-service & securing procedures
  • Transport containers to and from different locations and perform various project lifts using the reach stacker and attachments
