The aim of this course is provide an essential platform of knowledge, understanding and applied skills from which students can progress into higher education or employment.

Purpose

This 1 year qualification is delivered by Northumberland College at their Blyth Campus, maximising Port Training Services’ facilities at the Port of Blyth. The qualification will allow you to develop the practical skills and experience to build the progression pathway that’s right for you – be that into further academic or vocational learning, into higher education or into employment.

Content

This qualification will consist of the following units:

Manditory

  • The Engineered World
  • Investigating an Engineered Product
  • Interpreting and Using Engineering Information
  • Mathematics for Engineering

Plus a range of optional units from the following:

  • Health and Safety in Engineering
  • Engineering Maintenance
  • Engineering Materials
  • Computer-aided Engineering
  • Electronic Circuit Design and Construction
  • Electrical and Mechanical Science for Engineering
  • Engineering Assembly

Objective

Northumberland College works with a range of engineering companies across the North East, including those in the offshore energy sector and some based locally to Blyth such as Akzo Nobel and Tharsus. All students will have an opportunity to take part in an industrial placement during their course which will prepare them for further studies relating to engineering or employment.
